After being blown off course the previous week, Oakville's
second annual Cruise for a Cause got underway on September
16th beneath a clear blue sky with close to 200 guests on
board. The lake was calm and we were treated to a spectacular
sunset as we cruised westward on the MV Wayward Princess.
Once again Julia's Ristorante, Fish Bones Oyster Bar &
Grille, the Black Forest Pastry Shop, and Tim Horton's came
along to provide our customary "treats on the pier"
with Henry of Pelham and Sleeman Breweries supplying the wine
and beer for the cruise. Our guests also had an opportunity
to savour a wide variety of cocktails served throughout the
evening by the Signature Group on behalf of Diageo the world's
leading premium drinks provider. Judging by the feedback,
the pleasures of a well made cocktail, shaken not stirred,
were greatly appreciated.
Our ace photographer, Rachelle Rousseau roamed the streets
of Oakville, the pier, and the decks capturing the scene and
events as they unfolded. And, for those in need of some TLC,
Aisa Kalvegira was "on-hand" with her Gifted Hands
Massage.
Over fifty local businesses contributed an array of raffle
and auction items ranging from theatre tickets and fine dining,
through flower arrangements and spa treatments, to quality
jewellery and watches, and just about everything in-between
- clothing, glassware, games, tattoos, riding lessons and
an overnight stay in a luxurious hotel suite.
We are indebted, as always, to these "friends of CharterAbility"
without whom there would be no Cruise for a Cause. We say
"friends" rather than "sponsors" or "contributors"
because we know them all as people rather than organizations;
people who support what we are doing and are willing to go
out of their way to help us. None more so than Eric Rogers
at Nautical Adventures who has been willing to place the MV
Wayward Princess at our disposal from day one.
We are also indebted to our guests, many of whom have been
on all three cruises. Most are old friends some are new acquaintances
that we hope will become friends. And then there are our volunteers,
the folks who put their time and effort into helping out with
the cruises in any way they can.
To all, we express our sincere thanks.
Our desire to create Lake Ontario's FIRST barrier free, fully
accessible charter boat service for GROUPS of people with
disabilities or mobility impairments is stronger than ever!
We believe that our services will benefit people with disabilities
and many of the organizations that are helping them develop
their abilities, participate in the community, and lead more
fulfilling lives. We are gratified that so many other people
in the community, local business owners and organizations
also share this view and have contributed to our effort.
